LNG fuel tanks for a regional haulage operator

Configuring vehicle-mounted LNG tanks and a filling point for a long-haul fleet operating between industrial cities.

The requirement

A haulage operator running long-distance routes wanted to evaluate LNG as a fuel for a first tranche of tractor units, with a filling point at the home depot.

The technical review

Range per fill, hold time between fills, mounting envelope on the chassis and the duty cycle of the vehicles were reviewed together. Hold time was the deciding constraint: vehicles that stand over a weekend must not vent.

The configuration

Vehicle-mounted cryogenic fuel tanks were matched to the available chassis envelope and route range, with a depot filling arrangement sized for the overnight turnaround window.

Outcome

The operator received a configuration package covering tank selection, mounting, filling infrastructure and the training and maintenance scope, allowing a like-for-like comparison against diesel before committing to the fleet conversion.
